AHA

Glycolic Acid

What it is

The smallest alpha-hydroxy acid, derived from sugarcane; a chemical exfoliant.

What it does

Loosens the bond between dead surface cells, improving texture and brightness; may reduce the look of uneven tone.

Where it appears

Toners, peels, cleansers, masks; typically 4–10% leave-on, higher in professional peels.

Who may benefit

Tolerant, non-sensitive skin with texture or dullness; not for compromised barriers.

Considerations

Can irritate and increase sun sensitivity. Avoid on skin using tretinoin unless guided. Skip before/after strong treatments.

Common misconceptions

More is not better — daily high-strength use can damage the barrier. Tingling does not mean it's working.

Interactions

Avoid simultaneous use with retinoids or other acids in the same session unless professionally directed.

How Willow talks about it

Explain it as a gentle resurfacing step, not a daily 'scrub substitute,' and stress SPF with any acid use.
